I kept a lot of this painting loose; I wanted the feel of a field sketch. When I paint on site, it's easy to get lost in detail while at the same time there is a certain urgency in getting information down while the sun is moving and shadows and colors are changing constantly. I wanted the painting to feel dynamic and fleeting, a moment, a day, in the late hours of the afternoon quiet.
