Mt. Shasta in Winter
I made a trip to Shasta during the pandemic. It was only April the day I painted this, the weather was both sunny and snowing, cloudy, and cold! I am drawn to this mountain peak because of its grandure and sheer monumentality and have returned many times to paint it. It hovers above the small town of Shasta and is ever present in the lives of the people who live there, like a beacon, a force, or a giant ancient grandmother or grandfather. I always feel like I'm in the presence of something divine, somehow living, that changes from day to day.
